Privacy, stated plainly.
Quiet Weather has no account, no analytics, no crash reporter, and no advertising library. The app sends selected coordinates, or words from a typed place search, through an HTTPS Quiet Weather gateway to the services named below. This page explains exactly what that means.
What the app sends, and to whom
A forecast lives on somebody else's computer. To show you one, the app has to ask for it. When you use current location, that means latitude and longitude. When you search for a place, it means the words you type. That is the information the app needs to answer your request, and we would rather state it plainly than bury it.
The app has no account, advertising ID, or profile to send with those requests. For a forecast, it sends only the selected coordinates to a Cloudflare Worker gateway operated for Quiet Weather. The Worker uses Geoapify to resolve country and IANA time-zone information before requesting WeatherKit. A typed place search sends the words you enter to that Worker so Geoapify can return a match. The gateway caches typed-search and reverse-lookup responses for up to 24 hours. Like any internet request, the gateway and those services may process IP addresses and request logs under their own policies.
§ 01Location
If you allow it, Quiet Weather reads your device's location so it can show the weather where you actually are. You can skip that entirely and type a place name instead — the app works fully either way, with no location permission at all.
Your chosen location and any places you save are stored on your device so the app opens where you left it. They are not backed up to us.
The app may refresh weather in the background for widgets and local notifications, using the location you already selected. It does not request your device's current location in the background.
§ 02Where requests go
Quiet Weather's Cloudflare Worker gateway — receives only selected coordinates for a forecast, or text from a typed place search. It uses Geoapify to resolve country and time-zone information before it calls WeatherKit. It keeps provider credentials out of the app; it is not an account system or advertising service. It caches typed-search and reverse-lookup responses for up to 24 hours.
Apple Weather / WeatherKit — core current, hourly, daily, and next-hour forecast data. It receives the coordinates, country code, and IANA time zone resolved by the gateway for a forecast.
Geoapify — typed place search and time-zone resolution. It receives the search text, or forecast coordinates needed to resolve country and time-zone information, through the gateway.
Environment and Climate Change Canada GeoMet — official weather alerts, radar imagery, AQHI observations, and Canadian official map layers. Receives the tile coordinates and time needed to return the visible map area.
NOAA / National Weather Service — official National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD) wind and temperature map tiles for the contiguous United States. The Maps tab requests only the tile coordinates and forecast time for the visible map area, directly from NWS.
Esri ArcGIS Location Platform — base map tiles. It receives the tile coordinates for the map area you view. The map includes OpenStreetMap data and shows the required attribution.
Your device's geocoding service — when you use current location, it turns coordinates into a place label. It receives the coordinates needed for that request.
Each service is governed by its own privacy policy. Quiet Weather does not send them an account, a name, an advertising ID, or a profile about you.
§ 03Attribution
WeatherKit requires the Apple Weather mark and the legal attribution link supplied by WeatherKit to remain available in the app. The app also keeps the required Esri and OpenStreetMap attribution on maps, preserves the ECCC credit and alert wording, identifies NOAA / NWS when a U.S. forecast layer is active, and displays Geoapify attribution where required by the plan in use. These credits are part of using the data lawfully, not advertising.
§ 04What stays on your phone
Your selected and saved locations, unit and appearance settings, notification choices, any trips or custom alert rules you create, and a cached copy of the most recent forecast so the app can open without waiting for the network. All of it lives in the app's own storage on your device. Uninstalling Quiet Weather removes it.
§ 05Notifications
On Android, optional rain, frost, morning-summary and official-alert notifications, plus the optional lock-screen line, are created on your device from weather data it refreshes for your selected location. There is no push server, and Echo House Labs does not send or receive notification messages.
§ 06What the app does not do
No analytics. No telemetry. No crash reporting. No advertising SDK or ad network. No account, and no login. No AI profiling of you or your habits. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use forecast or search requests for advertising.
This is verifiable rather than merely claimed: the app's full dependency list is short, and none of it is an analytics or advertising library.
§ 07Weather alerts and the ECCC licence
Official alerts come from Environment and Climate Change Canada and are shown exactly as issued, word for word. The ECCC licence requires that their content and intent be preserved, and the app never rewrites, summarises, or re-rates them.
§ 08App stores
Quiet Weather is distributed through Google Play and the Apple App Store. The store itself collects information about downloads and any purchases under its own privacy policy, which we neither control nor receive. We see aggregate install counts and whatever reviews you choose to leave.
§ 09Children
Quiet Weather is not directed at children. It does not create accounts or ask for personal profile information from anyone, of any age.
§ 10Your choices and rights
You can use a manually chosen place instead of device location. You can remove app-stored places and settings by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it. Requests needed to provide live weather are handled by the providers named above under their own policies; contact us if you need help understanding the Quiet Weather side of the service.
§ 11Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date at the top changes with it. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes rather than made quietly.
